ABOUT FUSION

It's not all wheelchairs and basketballs... we're on a mission to change the bleedy world!

Hello. We are Fusion, Plymouth’s only wheelchair basketball club and we would like to share with you our objectives:

  • Raise the profile of wheelchair basketball in the South West.

  • Get as many people as possible, with a physical disability or not to try wheelchair basketball.

  • Get as many people as possible to our games – both home and away.

  • Show those with a disability that there’s an outlet to try a sport that is just incredible.

  • Raise as much money a possible to keep wheelchair basketball sustainable in the South West.

When it comes to South West basketball, we’ve always been in the background when it comes to basketball. With clubs like the Raiders and the Patriots taking the spotlight, it is easy for us to be over-looked.

However, this isn’t a ‘feel sorry for ourselves’ post. We thrive on a challenge.

Like the above teams we all play basketball, the only difference is we use wheelchairs - and we can tell you now, you might think basketball is fast-paced  - but try bombing down the court on four wheels and bouncing a ball. It’s class.

One bragging right we do have against the other Plymouth based clubs is that we are the only premier basketball team in Plymouth to actually play in Europe. We believe it's a great opportunity to be able to give players the chance to play against European professionals and know what it takes to be the best!

Moving forward, we feel it has always been our mission to erase the stigma that wheelchair basketball is only for people with disabilities – that’s far from true. Yes, our job is to give an active outlet for those with a disability a chance to try a new sport, but we are also very fortunate to have those with no physical disability get involved and help grow the sport too. So if you fancy giving wheelchair basketball a go – let’s see how you get on against the Fusion squad! We’re sure you’ll leave happy (and knackered) after playing a game or two.

One of our other goals is getting ‘bums on seats’. When it comes to our games, we want as many supporters coming along as possible – cheering us on, getting behind the team and seeing just how much fun watching wheelchair basketball really is. If getting to our game just isn't possible then don't feel like you have to miss out as all our games are livestreamed.

Another element is the sustainability of the club. Truth is we only rely on the goodwill and donations of others to keep Fusion afloat. From hiring courts for practice and game days, buying the players kits, giving them the opportunity to play in Europe, or taking time out of our lives to go to schools and help educate children on wheelchair basketball and inclusivity – it all depends on the generosity of others. With this we are working on a plan to help generate revenue through new sponsorship packages and a series of charitable events for 2024/25 that will be fun for all the family so watch this space.

Plymouth Fusion Wheelchair Basketball Club survives through sponsorship. It enables us to buy kits for the team, travel around the country to give our players a taste of what it's like to play at a professional level, pay for court hire so we can educate all ages about disability sport... and so much more. Please call Aaron on 0786738095 to discuss how you can make a difference.
